Holiday Home Security Tips from Microtimes

Holiday seasons are most tempting time for burglars to break into your house. Here are few security tips you can follow to make sure your home is safe.

  1. When at home, make sure you always close all your curtains at night as burglars may be tempted by items on display
  2. Its always good idea to install outdoor lighting, as darkness tempt burglars to operate
  3. Think twice when you leave your spare key as it can be found by attentive burglars.
  4. Cancel your newspaper and other subscriptions, if you are out for the long holiday.
  5. Burglars may get the clue that you have expensive items inside your home if they find empty gift boxes from you new computer, DVD player or sound system on the street for garbage. Make sure you break down properly.
  6. If possible, put timer switches on your TV and lights so it looks like you’re at home even when you’re out
  7. When some repairperson knock to enter your home for essential maintenance & repairs always seek for proper identification.
  8. Install a burglar alarm system and make sure it is installed as a visible for possible burglars
  9. If your home has a gas fire be aware that carbon monoxide poisoning is a real risk
  10. Don’t leave descriptive telephone answering machine messages like, “You’ve reached the Adam’s…we’re away for the Christmas holiday…please leave a message.” Burglars love to hear that they have plenty of time to break in and completely ransack your home.
